Gregory Shushan, PhD, is the leading authority on near-death experiences and the afterlife across cultures and throughout history. He is the author of The Next World: Extraordinary Experiences of the Afterlife; Near-Death Experience in Indigenous Religions; and Conceptions of the Afterlife in Early Civilizations. He has also published numerous articles on the subject, has spoken at many conferences in various countries, and has appeared on the History Channel. He is currently Visiting Fellow at University of Winchester, and Research Fellow at the Parapsychology Foundation.

Throughout history and around the world, near-death experiences have influenced ideas about the afterlife. They also share similarities with other extraordinary experiences such as shamanism, psychic mediumship, and memories of states between lives in reincarnation memories. But they also have many differences, both between cultures and individuals. What can this combination of similarities and differences tell us about near-death experiences, death, and the afterlife?
