To honor International Women's Day on the 8th of March I am talking to Mila Johansen, a public speaker, writing coach, teacher, and writer. She is the author of five books. She is a writing coach and has a new book coming out—21 Surprising Tips to Promote Your Book. She loves giving people permission to write their Short Book and teaches them how to do it. The Short Book can be used by entrepreneurs to become the expert in their field, to be a calling card or the outline for a longer book. Mila has published a book, From Cowgirl to Congress, available on Amazon and in bookstores, about her famous suffragette grandmother, Jessie Haver Butler, for the 100th anniversary of women getting the right to vote in August 2020. Mila lives on her organic citrus ranch in Northern California with her husband, four dogs and a cat.
Growing up in unimaginable situations as a child does not define you. Take inspiration from these stories of two women who overcame extreme poverty and dangers as children to go on to enjoy successful careers helping people in all walks of life. In the new book, From Cowgirl to Congress, Jessie Butler escaped a Colorado cattle ranch to become the 1st woman lobbyist in D.C. after putting together the Pulitzer School of Journalism. She went on to share the podium several times with Bernard Shaw and Eleanor Roosevelt. And later, in her early 90s, with Gloria Steinem and Marlo Thomas. Her granddaughter, Mila Johansen, who grew up in gangland, tells both their stories. No matter what your background, you can change the next chapter of your story and live your passion.
Mila's 3 top tips:
- Start -Just Start Or Start - Just Start--whatever your dream is.
- Write for 20 Min a Day Or Be inspired by other people’s stories
- Look at what others are writing in books, bios & descriptions or You are Enough!

Today I interview Pei-Ming Sun, an amazing woman that has reinvented herself from Taiwanese micro- and molecular biologist to stay-home single mother, small business owner as a real estate investor, a cooking instructor, a food truck operator, a small restaurant owner, then now an online entrepreneur as a life strategist to share key tips for a simple healthy lifestyle.
In Pei-Ming's words:
Life is SIMPLE. Being is what we have lost if we think life is difficult. Our dis-engagement from being true self has led us to inevitable suffering, addiction, depression, and even loss of willingness to live. It has been proven by science, our thought can create reality not only at both our conscious and subconscious levels but also at cellular level to change our biology. Thus, the only way to achieve healthy living is to re-discover our true self, nurture our mind and body, and live in a simple lifestyle that fits the best with our evolved human body.
Pei-Ming's 3 top tips:
1. Awareness
2. Balance
3. Consistency

Today I catch up with Denise Cloughley: author, former inmate at Capri Hospital and now a woman on a mission to show others that the past does not equal the future.
I met Denise first on a Friday in March 2014. We were both starting the holiday of a lifetime. 27000 nzd for 1 month full board at Capri Hospital. We were both broken people but had done extensive research into alcohol. As good alcoholics do, we quickly compared notes. Who has the higher liver function tests, where is the best place to hide a bottle. Fun stuff!
Fast forward 2503 days. Both Denise and I live lives so beautiful that yesterday becomes jealous of today. We both have found the power to love ourselves, something we both considered impossible.
Denise has written this book for one simple reason - to show that the past does not equal the future. She has done so in a beautiful way. The book is well written and its content is honest and incredibly humbling. If you struggle with addiction or have a loved one who does, read this book. It is a journal of hope and shows that with the right help, and willingness of the patient, miracles are not only possible but in fact to be expected.

123 Yumay Chang - The Power To Manifest: Triumph from Childhood Abuse
Saturday Feb 13, 2021
Saturday Feb 13, 2021
In Yumay's words:
I was severely abused by sadistic parents - overt dad and covert mom, and emigrated to the US at age 20 with nothing and no one. I learned how to heal myself and build a life:
1. MS in CS from Stanford at age 21. Paid for school by being a CS TA despite English being my second language.
2. Financially free in my early 30s.
3. Ran/Running global sales teams for Microsoft and Google.
4. Built and sold a striving race business with over 20k racers.
5. I was a pretty good athlete myself at one point in my life :) - adventure races, 50 mile runs, podium placing bike racer across MTB, cyclocross, road race, and track race.
6. What I am most proud of is that I have great relationships with my siblings, my friends, my husband and my cat. Not easy since I had to learn how to have good relationships from scratch!
7. Currently also hosting Life Is Love School to help survivors understand they have the power to heal themselves.
For Yumay the following topics are of biggest importance:
1. Not understanding the impact their childhood has on their life today, especially when it comes to intimate relationships.
2. Not realizing that they can heal themselves, but insisting that justice requires their abusers to apologize and fix what they’ve broken.
3. Not making progress because they don’t know how to go about healing themselves.

122 Charle Peck - Overcoming the guilt & Pain of Parenting
Saturday Feb 06, 2021
Saturday Feb 06, 2021
Raising teens in today’s world is challenging. Add a pandemic, and the potential for conflict is certain. Parents, especially moms, typically feel a tremendous burden of guilt and pain, and when trying to raise a teen, there is often conflict. However, there IS hope, and parents can both empower themselves and their teens to find peace and harmony in their home again.
You should NOT have to parent in isolation. Since schools are significant secondary agents of socialization, high school educators should be better trained as well. “It takes a village” has a whole new meaning in 2021!
Charle uses her unique lens as an Educator, a Mental Health Professional, and a Parent to help schools and families thrive. Her goal is to get teens safely to adulthood with resiliency and empowerment. She uses evidence-based data related to human development and brain science to educate adults about their influences on adolescent behavior. Charle designs and delivers online courses and virtual training internationally, and as the creator and host of the podcast Advancing Humanity, she also invests her time and energy into reaching people on a massive scale, aiming for a prosperous future.
Charle's top 3 tips:
1. Stop talking and listen to your teen.
2. Figure out the underlying issue with behaviors that arise.
3. Notice the negative pattern and do something different.

Do you ever talk yourself out of the dreams that you have or the goals that you set for yourself? Do you struggle to trust yourself or second guess the decisions that you make? Do you find yourself sabotaging yourself again and again no matter how many times you think this time will be different? If you're like many of the hundreds of women I’ve coached over the past 13 years, let me reassure you that there’s nothing wrong with you. It’s actually the programming in your subconscious mind that needs a reboot.
Keegan White is a Mindset Coach who teaches heart-centered women in business how to overcome self-doubt so that they can make more money and have a bigger impact. Combining her experience in long term recovery from drugs and alcohol, meditation and mindfulness trainings, she is an expert on women’s inner dialogue, reprogramming the brain, and overall well-being.
Keegan's 3 top tips:
1. The importance of learning to trust yourself after active addiction no matter what phase of recovery you are in.
2. The key to unlocking your ability to stop struggling and second guessing yourself lies in your subconscious mind and that once you shift your core belief about yourself anything is possible.
3. That negative voice in your head is a part of you but not the whole sum of you.
