Sunday Aug 16, 2020
Sunday Aug 16, 2020
Leading by example, Christina transformed her struggling marriage to an alcoholic into a journey of recovery, forgiveness, and healing together with her husband who has been sober for almost a decade now. She was born and raised in Zurich and married her American husband of over two decades in 1995. In 2009 her life and marriage started to unravel. Amid financial turbulence her husband hit rock bottom and started his life of sobriety.
Because of her own journey as a co-dependent and wife of an alcoholic Christina decided to dedicate her life to help women who share their life with an alcoholic. Her coaching business was born in 2014 and has evolved to a powerful support and mentor system for women who decide to take their life into their own hands and take their power back.
Christina's 3 top tips:
- Self-Care
- Letting go of control - live and let live
- Refocus on yourself and not the alcoholic

In Kat's words:
I hope to encourage people to use their gifts and talents to the fullest extent in order to live their fullest life. It took me a long time to find the confidence to claim being a writer. Part of the problem was my past of sexual abuse as a child. After dealing with the pain the abuse caused through alcohol and drugs during my early twenties, I thought I was fine with moving on with my life once I got married and had kids. Was I ever wrong. While I was too concerned with becoming an alcoholic to reach for the bottle during the day (so concerned with what other people and my husband would think of me) not dealing with my past was spiraling me into depression, causing me to resent my husband, hate myself and feel absolutely worthless. I see women walking about barely in control of their emotions and I have an idea of what’s wrong: they haven’t dealt with the heavy stuff of their past. They have walked on, hoping that time will heal, but time doesn’t heal anything. Purproful forgiveness heals. It was only after I went to therapy to deal with my past and worked through how I could learn to forgive and live a life of forgiveness that I was able to walk into my purpose of being a writer and now coaching people in their writing.
Raised mostly in Wisconsin, Kat has now lived in three other countries, is married to her prince with an accent and has three beautiful girls. In 2017 she published her first novel, Stepping Across the Desert. In 2019, Kat published her second novel, An Audience with the King and published an interactive journal because she truly believes that everyone’s life is worth writing down.
Kat's 3 top tips:
- Forgiveness is essential to living a full life
- Time doesn’t heal anything
- You have specific gifts and talents and creativity that you should absolutely be sharing with the world

In Camille's words:
Life is messy and beautiful, and eliminating alcohol or any vice should reflect that which is life. Removing your vice is not linear. No one quits the first time. We have usually spent years practicing the behaviors of drinking, and in return we need to practice the behavior of living without alcohol. More than anything, we have to find humor in our faults and understand no one goes through life gracefully. What fun is that anyway? Have you ever wondered if your addiction was a gift?
- Looking at addiction as a gift
- Mom wine culture and what we are teaching our kids
- How behavior and environment are important when breaking habits, but the lasting change happens at the beliefs and identity lever
- Alcohol as a triple threat: addictive, habitual, and ritualistic
- Grey area drinker defined
Camille Kinzler is a self-discovery coach for women. She specializes in helping women who don’t identify as “alcoholics” explore a “sober curious” lifestyle, whether that is a 100 day break from alcohol or complete abstinence. In addition to her private coaching practice, she is a physician assistant who has worked in urgent care and family practice for over 10 years. She draws on her medical education, as well as her training as a neuro-linguistic programming practitioner, and certified life and recovery (from all vices) coach to help women discover the root cause of their cycle. She ultimately helps women create a life they don’t want to numb. She lives in Austin, Texas with her ridiculously supportive husband, and two boys who she sees as her biggest teacher. She seeks truth, freedom and joy every day.
Camille's 3 top tips:
- Day one doesn’t start the day you stop drinking.
- There is no “one size fits all” to quit drinking.
- Alcohol is a triple whammy: addictive, habitual, and ritualistic.
Four times a year Camille opens up small group sessions to explore a life you don’t want to numb. The groups are intimate, confidential, and heart opening. It’s the perfect container to find the freedom you seek. If you feel called, you can join her free Facebook group here or contact her at camille@thinkbeyondthedrink.com for her 1:1 offerings.

In Cammie's words:
In western culture, self love and sobriety are both radical acts of rebellion. The world is constantly sending us messages that we are not good enough and drinking is the magic elixir that will solve all of our problems. When I stopped listening to the harmful messages the world was sending me and started to listen to my true self, my life became more meaningful and more fulfilling.
After 30 years of drinking, I have found my calling in life as a Sobriety Coach. I work with women to get to the root of why they drink and to deprogram the message of “not enoughness” that society has told us since birth. Self- love and sobriety is the ultimate act of rebellion in society that expects us to conform and surrender our power. It is my privilege to help women gain back their power and to help them create the sober life that they have dreamed of.
3 top tips
- We take care of the things we love. When you start to love yourself, you will no longer want to poison yourself with alcohol.
- You don’t have to hit rock bottom to stop drinking. You just need to realize you are worthy of a better life.
- Change your thoughts about drinking and change your life.

In Helen's words:
When my oldest child was 7, I had a vision of her at 14, and I was terrified. I thought my feisty daughter was going to be unmanageable by the time she was a teenager, and I didn’t imagine how I would cope. What I didn’t realise was that growing up isn’t linear - it’s incremental in so many beautiful twists and turns. And the child you get at 14 is never the one you expect at 7.
Helen Wills is an award-winning UK family lifestyle blogger. She started her blog Actually Mummy in 2011, when she realised that talking to the four walls and a baby was never going to be enough. Since then she’s charted her (often hilarious) encounters with her children, right up until the present day, when they are no longer funny. Helen now writes about the whole spectrum of raising her teenaged son and daughter, from the emotionally tough, to the frankly ridiculous. Never afraid of taking the less popular view, she is often to be found challenging stereotypes on Instagram, Facebook, and via her podcast Teenage Kicks.
Helen's 3 top tips:
1. Stop fearing the teenage years as a parent
2. Be inspired to grow with your child and embrace the adult they are becoming
3. Take ‘good enough’ over perfect and stop worrying about what other parents think of you
Helen: I’d love people to go over and have a listen to my Teenage Kicks podcast. I’ve interviewed some incredibly special people, all of whom have experienced difficult things as a teenager. All of them have come through their challenges, and consider their lives better because of what they went through. Their insight into what our teens are dealing with is invaluable, and their tips for parents AND teens on how to cope with similar problems are inspiring.

Episode 43 - Jodi Aman - Why We Call Gen Z “Entitled,” Yet They Feel Inadequate
Wednesday Aug 05, 2020
Wednesday Aug 05, 2020
Today I have the pleasure of speaking with Jodi Aman (Ay-min):
Why are more and more young people having mental health problems? Is it social media, genetics, or helicopter parenting? There is so much in our culture making us feel powerless, helpless and out of control. This leads to anxiety and depression, but there is something that we can do about it.
As a Family Therapist for over 20 years, Jodi empowers people to become their own healer. As an anxiety survivor and a mom of teens, Jodi totally gets it. Her TEDxWilmington talk, “Calm Anxious Kids,” and her new book, Anxiety...I’m So Done with You! are changing the way we understand the current mental health crisis.
If you want to read more - check out her new book
